‘Seismologists estimate that there is a 30 percent chance that a large earthquake will occur in our area within the next 50 years. Chemainus United Church is hosting a lecture and discussion on what to expect and how to mitigate the effects of a large earthquake.
Alison Bird, Seismologist, Natural Resources Canada, will cover the plate tectonics of our region, the history of major quakes in our region and what to expect including (tsunamis, liquefaction, landslides and major building damage).
Sybille Sanderson, Emergency Program Coordinator, CVRD, will outline what we can do now to protect ourselves and our families in the event of a large earthquake. She will also outline how we can help our neighbours and how they can help us.
